The Hilux is one of Australia’s most popular utility vehicles. We see more of them through our workshop than nearly any other make or model and as such, have fitted just about every possible Hilux tray and canopy combo over the last couple of years. The Toyota name and associated reliability makes them a solid choice for both private and fleet customers, with a large percentage of private owners choosing to use them for both work and recreation.

How big is a Hilux tray?

Either the 1650mm or 1850mm dual cab tray can be selected because when referencing the photos below, notice the headboard finishes clear in front of the rear axle. This means a full size canopy is also possible, which opens up the potential for a tradie style setup and a 3rd rear access door. Minimizing rear overhang should always be a consideration that is acted upon if practical, but compared to other models the Hilux fairs quite well and can handle a full size canopy if required for a certain application.

How much does a Hilux tray and canopy weigh?

A Hilux tray has a starting weight of 100kg. From there, it depends on what options you add to the tray and canopy. All our quotes come through itemized so it is easy for you to see what each item costs and what weight it adds to the package. This way you can be confident you are striking your perfect balance between functionality and carrying capacity. Even through our alloy trays are nearly half the weight of steel, we always recommend getting a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) upgrade done where possible. This will ensure you can make the most of the available space and remain road legal. We work in with vehicle dealers and aftermarket accessory suppliers to ensure if you are building a new vehicle, we can all work together to offer you a turn-key package.
